First skills audit for the G321 Foundation Production

When we started our preliminary exercise, my first impressions of the coursework was that it seemed really interesting as I have never done anything like it before, however afterwards I realised that it would be alot harder than I first thought. I liked how we were given an outline for our piece but still allowed our own creative freedom to add our own ideas. For our inital brainstorming idea, we very quickly came up with a common theme that our whole group seemed to be intrigued by and so we came up with the idea of an Asylem. For this I researched clips from similar TV dramas and found a video from an episode of casualty that clearly highlighted the right codes and conventions that we hoped to add to our own film. (Casualty clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOVy3XC9Hcs)

When it came to choosing roles, I felt very confident in the fact that the other three members of my team all have experience with cameras as they all do photography. Although film scripts are set out differently, I still felt able to add in ideas because of my own experience of creating scripts in english language. I was keen to learn how to edit and crop the produced film, as then I could use these skills later on when we make our longer film.

In the whole coursework, I was most worried about working with the camera as I have never done anything like that before but I feel that we are a strong team and so can help each other out. As we all had some area lacking in skill, mine being camerawork, we decided as a team that we should evenly distribute tasks out to whoever felt they could accomplish it the best and to also team together on some.

As a group we searched for the right areas of the college to film in, and took time in making sure that whichever doors we used would match so not to lose the clips continuity. Over a few lessons our team managed to finsh all of the necessary planning including; storyboard, script, SWOT analysis and our location/ prop list. We found two actors willing to play our roles and also all the props that we required to make our clip work.
