Due to a small miscommunication involving a mobile number being entered incorrectly, I was unable to attend the production afternoon because there was no way of contact. However when I next saw my team they were quick to fill me in on how they think the shoot went and any extras that I had missed. I was very pleased with what they had managed to do. I was slightly worried that because I had missed the filming of the preliminary exercise I would lose marks however Lee told us that it is a learning curve and now we know to have the right means of contacting each other in time for our main film, in order to prevent any more miscommunications occuring.
In the editing part of the exercise we were careful throughout to keep the continuity flowing by making each scene flow into the other. When watching the film on the editing studio I was really pleased to see that my group had filmed just the way we had planned with our script and storyboards. I also noticed how the mis-en-scene was very evident in the later shots such as the lab coats, straightjacket and heart-beat monitor. It followed the 180 degree rule like we had planned to use in our storyboards and kept close to the number of rule of third shots that we wanted.
I could see that the clip definitely represented the genre of medical/drama that we had decided on. Throughout the clip it was clear that there were lots of comparisons to our research, in which we had found a clip from Casualty that had the same focus as our preliminary brief.
However we did come into difficulty in editing when we realised that we had not followed the brief and instead of shooting in individual sections for our shots we had infact shot the whole film into one. As a group we were all concerned that this could affect our final outcome with the preliminary exercise and also drop our grades. However we are aware of the problem and will be very cautious to make sure we do not repeat this in the main exercise. After we were satisfied with our film on the computer we then had to decide on the sound and music. We trialled non-copyright music from the college library and as a group listened to see which music was in keeping with the panning shots and overall atmos. They were then added to the clip and faded in or out depending on where it was needed.
On completion of our final clip, found below.
The group seemed very successful that this preliminary exercise had gone well and I am looking forward to working longer and becoming more focused on our main exercise next term.
